TO BE REPAIRED HERE
• ' WELLINGTON, Feb. 9. "Fantastie" was the term applied today in responsible quarters to a suggestion that it was uncertain whether-. the liner could b.e repaired on the floating dock or niereiy niade seaworthy for a trip to Australia. It is reliably stated that everything points to the necessity of having the liner enter the floating cfock as quickly as possible. Only by tliis eo.urse will a eomplete exaniinatioa of th? damage he possible. It was nonsensa to place the liner 011 the dock for, examinatiou and* remoye her without taking the opportunity to eHbct repaivs. The known damage to the ship was very eonsiderable and to make her seaworthy for a trip to Australia would be enormous and perhaps an impossible task and not warranted by present calcnlations. It would be sueh a great undertaking that it would aniount to a eomplete repair projeet — not merely a cpiestion of patching but of rcstorationi There was the further fact that saivagc experts from abroad had been greatU impressed by the good standard of New Zealand engineering and engineers of the Harbour Board stated today that the dock would be available to the Wanganel-la whenever accommodatioii; was needed.
