Record Fields At Annual Sports In Levin Followers of athletics in the district were treated to two and ahalf hours of exciting" eycle and • athletic events on Saturday night on the occasion of the grand annual sports meeting conducted by the Levin Combined Amateur Athletic and Cycling, Club. Record entries from 15 different clubs gave the officials any amount of work in handicapping the hqats, but every event on the programme went off smoothly and was a credit to the : club's secrefary, Mr. J. H. Cooper and his assistants. The main event of the evening was the flve mile "A" grade cyole race for the Hickson Cup, which was won by A. Mobberley, of Palmerston North. The previous holder, H. Pidwell, of Wellington, did not compete in the race this year. Six contestants entered for this event, which was over 16 laps-, and several failed to last the distance. Mobberley, who was off the 150-yard mark, fought the race aH the way, with N. Parker, of Levin, who was off 290. The race was won by half a wheel. , At the conclusion of .the meeting the club's president, Mr. W. F. ,Cribb, presented the various cups and prizes to t^e successful contestants.
