LANA TURNER PLAYED TRUANT
Lana Turner's flight to . Mexico City to spend New Year's Day with Tyrone Power cost M.-G.-M. £34,000. The studio lost this amount when Lana failed to report on the Thursday. Lana's excuse for playing truant was "Tyrone is the only man I have ever loved." The wilful star, playing her first heavy drama role in "Green Dolphin Street," had been allowed a holiday on New Year's Day. On Thursday at noon she 'phoned, "I won't be in today. I am still in Mexico City with Tyrone." The studio had no option but to dismiss the high salaried cast and technicians of "Green Dolphin Street" for the day at tremendous cost. Tyrone Power, whose separation from French wife Annabella made the headlines in November, is in Mexico City making "-The Captain from Castile" for 20th CenturyFox. He will not return to Hollywood until March. The expenses department of M.-G.-M. report that Lana went on a shopping spree for the trip to Mexico City, spending £2000 on new clothes and hats!
