AUCKLAND, Pob. 7. Representatives of shipping and business interests, Auckland Chamber of Commerce, Government Tourist Bureau, Travel Club, Englisli "Hpeaking Union and other organisations, met in the offiee of the Mayor, Mr. Allum, to form an Auckland public relations ofiice to encourage tourist traific. They considered a set of propoals submitted to the Mayor by Mr. .1. N. Rouda, an American wlio has done publicity work in United States and *who was stationed in Auckland during the war as a member of the United States Navy public relations ofiice. A committee was set up and it was decided to seek incorporation under the Ineorporated Societies Act as Public Relations Ofiice of Auckland' Ineorporated, subject to the conlirmation of the committee. It was decided to appoint Mr. Rouda as public relations ofiicer .at a salarv of £.1250. It is proposed to raise monev for the -establishment and maintenance of the ofiice by subscription from public bodies, companies and individuals. The intentions are to establish a centre for the admission of proposals and plans alfecting the tourist trade, to enlist the cooperation of all loeal shipping and airways companies in co ordinating efforts made toward attracting tourist trafiic, to examine available facilities and make a concerted effon toward their expansion and improvement, to arrange attractive entertainment for visitors, to conduct a ''eivic prido" campaign, enlisting public support. for a programme of "welcome to Auckland", and to establish a news service which would submit .photograplrs and articles to visitors' hoine nswspapers. According to Mr. Rouda 's proposals stafi requirements would be a relations official, press relations official, staff photographer and personnel with some able to speak foreign languages for the information service.
