CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 7. The first unit a,o the new Karapiro hvdro-eleetrie station would be in operation by April next with the second unit in Julv and the third in October, said the chief electricfil cngineer to the State Hydro-electriety Department, Mr. A. E. Davenport, addressing the eonference of South Island power supply authorities this morning. The use of the tunnel from Lalce Waikaremoana would also be available as from April and the Kaitawa powerhouse is expected to be in operation by June or July next. A-nswering an observation by Mr. J. A. Nash, chairman of the Power Boards' Association, that the Jevel of Waikaremoana had fallen 15 feet, Mr. Davenport said that i9t was more desirable to eonserve Lake Taupo level as after April that lake's water wouhl be more valuable than Waikaremoana as it would serve two stations. The department tried to keep Taupo as full as possible not only to lill the dam at Karapiro but also to enable water to be by-passcd to serve a new station. — — v
