CUSTOMS SEIZE BIG CACHE OF DIAMONDS
Received Thursday, 8.50 p.m. BAX FRAXC1BCO, Feb. 5._ Colonel Edward J. Xlurray has been placed under teehnieal arrest following seizure by United Btates Customs agents of more than 210,000 dollars ' worth of diamonds he allegedly brought back from Japan. United Press says this is the largest jewel seizure ever made on the Paeific coast. The order for the arrest was radioed by General XlacArthur after United Btates customs officials informed Allied 1 cadquarters in Japan that undeelared diamonds had been discovered. Customs collector Paul Leake claimed that 10,000 dollars' worth of diamond were found in Xlurray 's pocket when he disembarked from a transport and a cache of more thaii 500 gems worth 200,000 dollars had been found in a safe deposit box after Xlurray gave the key to customs inspectors during cj[uestioning. Leake said Xlurray apparently brought the cache in on a previous trij)i to the Fnited Btates. Port officials said General XlacArthur had ordered an imniediate investigation in Japan.
