BREWERY TO BE TAKEN OVER BY TRUST
INVERCARGILL, Feb. C. , ; The Invercargill Licensiug Trust has j decided to take over the Southland ' brevvery either by outright pul-chase as j a going concern or under the provisions ■ of the Public Works Act. "This action has been brought about ! , by the fact that the original agreeinent ! between the trust and brewery has J never been completed," said the chair- ! ! man of the trust, Mi^ JLugh Ritchie. : j"The brewery compan3r will be asked ! in the first place to sell the brewery as ! j a going concern and it is probable an ■ agreement will be reached along these lines or other lines. The alternative will be adopted only if negotiations for , the purehase fall through. Should the povvers under the Act be exercised. the | trust can, by law, take over only the land and the buildings but it is not expected there will -be any difficulty in acquiring the plant and inachinery. This action is fully in accordauce with Ihe trust 's policy to eontrol the Sale of liquor in Invercargill. The trust already has a quarter share in the brewery, the qapital of whieh is £30,000.
