Personal Mr. Huia Cole is making rapid progress towards recovery from a severe illness. The death of Miss Oriwa Te Waru, which occurred on Tuesday night, removed another of Otaki's oldest identities and one who was most popular among both Maoris and Eurdpeans. Miss Te Waru, who was 68 years of age, had been in failing health for some time, and only recently returned from Foxton, where she had been spending a holiday on account of lier health. The funeral takes place tomorrow at Otaki. Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Garrity, who have been residents of Otaki for some years during which time they have made many friends, intend to 5ake up residence in Wanganui Mr. Garrity will be greatly missed in sporting circles, especially cricket, in which he has been a very prominent player :md an ardent supporter. Mrs. Garrity will also be missed, she fiaving taken a keen interest in various matters for the welfare of the town. Inter-Chib Croquet Playing on me Municipal Club's green on Tuesday an interesting game resulted between Paraparaumu and Manakau for the Palmerston North Council Cup. The former proved victorious, playing well to win by 88 to 56. Thanks were extendea to the Municipal Club for the use of its green. Otaki Municipal travelled to Paekakariki to play for the cup, when Paekakariki won 92 to 86. The day proved a very enjoyahle one.
