"There are some good players here who play just as good strokes as we , do but thev lack competition, " said Billy Talbert, a member of the United States 1946-47 Davis Cup tennis team, after plaving exhibition games here' today. He said the essence of the production of a player of world class, lay in competition. "Tt is only from beatings that you take front men better than you and what you learn from tliem, tliat the final stages of development come," he said. "You play against top rank men and take your beatings. You sav to yourself ITl get that gny and then suddenly you find your game improving out of sight. It takes a lot of competition and a lot of beatings. Then if you've gtftYwhat it thkes, - you come suddenly to top. - Your boys need just that."
