The oftieial count sliowed that 0910 votes had been polled for Mr. A. C. Baxter (Labour) and 0871 votes for Mr. II. Johustone (National). Mr. Baxter was declaredt elected by 39 votes. Besides the application for a magisterial recount, Mr. Johustone has Jodged a petition before the Electoral Court asking that the decision of the returning ofiicer, Mr. J. H. C. Halliday, of Ngaruawahia, be reversed and that Mr. lohnstone be doc.lared elected. No date has vet been lixed for the hearing of he petition.
