WANGANUI, Feb. 3. Twenty-two diainond rings, the value ot' which has not been given official ly , but ut'ii consorvative estimate must be • wortli more than £1000, were stolen ! from the sliop premises of .J. Willianis aud Co., Ltd., Victoria Aveuue, 011 Friday. The theft was acconiplished I in a juirlicularly daring fashion dur- ! ing siiopping hours. The rings were ; set in a plush-Iinished tray for windovv ' display purposes and it is believed that a pe'rson skilled in lifting valuable property took up a position inside the • sliop and near the street windows, assuining the appearance of a custonier. Theu when oportunity offerod he calmly passed a hand into the windovv, removed the tray and walked out probably after having put the tray in a I bag or basket. • The police have the niatter in hand.
