WELLINGTON, Feb. 2. In the settlement which was come lo last week in Conciliation Uouncii on the application of the New Zealand Dairy Factories Union of Workers foi tha new Domihion aTvard/ it was agreed that the week shall commcnce at midniglit on 8unday :with the exceptiou of certain shift workers for whom special provision iS "made. Ordinary rates shall -be payable for time worked between Monday and- Friday. All timo worked on Saturday shall -be paid for at time and a-half rates. On >Sunda\ the rate will be double the ordinary wage rate whether as part of or outside of the workers' 40-hour week. Up to . eight hours a week overtime pay wifi" be worked at time and a-half rate, any further overtime is.-to be at .doubli' rates. Payment for afternoon and nighi shifts has been increased from 2s t«» : 2s (>d a shift. Payment made t> workers employed in broken periods has been increased from- Is to 2s Cid a day. It was agreed that in the classilication there shall be provision not only for wages but also for a definite number oi clas'sified workers according to the totai number of workers employed in a fac tory. A new classification and wage rate has been inserted for the cream testcr in charge. The basic wage for general liands has been increased by 10s a week to £5 11s 6d.
