BUSY DAYS AT PALACE

Buckingham Palace is a hive of industry as preparations are made for the Royal tour of South Africa. Busiest man is 56-year-old Sir Piers Leigh, Master -of the Household. One of his many jobs has been that of supplementing the normal supplies of the warship Vanguard with the King's "personal" stock of wines, liqueurs andr cigars to cover his entertaining of guests on the outward and return journey. In wines, the King's cwn tastes lean towards hock and Moselles, and the Queen favours sweet Bordeaux and white wines, but they have to allow an all -round stock for guests. The Kin'g i'sn't a heavy smoker, but likes " an occasional Havana, and gets through a few Egyptian cigarettes a day. The B.-B.-C. is making arrangements to cover the tour, and plans a special news bulletin to give the King a summary of world affairs at his breakfast table every day, even in the most inaccessible places.
