SHEEP DOG TRIALS
(Judge: Mr. A. J. Ayres, Dannevirke) Maiden sheep dog trial, for dogs that have never won a first prize. — J. Murdoch's entry 1, J. Manson's Moss 2, R. D. Jensen's Queen 3. Six entries. Open sheep dog trial. — H. H. Harris' Border Bill 1 and General Haig 2, J. B. Smith's Jan II 3. Nine entries. The maiden event was quite a good one, but the competito^s were in need of more experience in working their dogs, commented the judge. They did not assist ihe dogs sufficiently, but left them to do the most of the work. The dogs were I young and needed considerably more experience and training, especially in hill work. The narrowness of the ground seemed to be their main difficulty. ' Both' dogs and owners did very good work in the open event, said Mr. Ayres. The sheep were very touchy, but were very well handled. Considering the temperament of the sheep, this was a very good exhibition indeed.
