The plough was very fast at Awa- ., puni when horses engaged. at Wanganui and. Woodville were giyen their final gallops and the , outstanding, trials were those . of Flying Ace, Dileas and Dutch Mary. " ' Flying A«e, with It". .Saunders in the saddle, worked by himself and after a round on the sand he jumped away sliort of the seven-furlong mark antl, ueginning briiliantly, was timed to run the flrst half-mile in 51 3-5. That was over the fastest ktrip of the plough.- He was liome in just over 40 seeonds to complete in 1.32 and, under his light vveight, he was travelling smoothly at the liuish, the last six taking liim 1.19 1-5. Dileas (A. Bowness) went with Dutch Mary (Saunders) over "a mile and if they did better than 1.45 it was not by much. The mile peg is away down the straight but from a moment after they " took off" they wero timed to run the flrst furlong in 14 seeonds. They were together with Dutch Mary on the outer at the five, reached in 38. They passed the three m 64 seeonds and were home in 41 with Dileas a length in front at the post to complete in 1.45. The sectional times coming in were last seven 1.31 and last five 1.7. There was a confliet of opinion over the time but 1.45 would not be t'ar out. Botli horses were going kindly at the finish. Newel Post (L. J. Clutterbuek), Roto Parera (C. Christiansen) and Phalaria (V. J. Bellers) were in that order at the end of six furlongs run in 1.19 2-5 and Newel Post was home nieely in 41. Lady Oratory (A. G. Waddell) beat Bcstacy (S. Waddell) over five furlongs cut out in 1.6 3-5 and Lady Oratory broke 40 for the last three. Petre Mar (A. Bowness) sprinted half a mile ainl was travelling smoothly over the last bit after covering the last three in 38 3-5. Theiolyn (A. G. Waddell) was going kindly after running live in 1.8 3-5. Emerge (Saunders) was not required to do better than 1.8 in a similar workout. Flak (Anderson) and Matawene (A. Bowness) were together at the end of seven furlongs tuii in 1.36 3-5. They broke 1.9 for the last five. A. Midwood will ride Flak and R. W. Sliaw will ride Matawene at Woodville. L. J. Clutterbuek will be at Wanganui and he has been engaged for Robin's JRevvard, Wee Joan, and Black Plato. F. Buchanan rides Havildar at Woodville.
