DUNEDIN, Jah. 30. When a party of four harvesters went for a swim last ev-ening in the Pomahaka River, nine miles from Cliu ton, two were drowned after one liad got into difficulties in deep water. The vietims were: — Stewart Thomas Slieppart, of Balclutha, married, with five children. Robert Douglas Kell, of Taumata, Clinton, single. The other two members of the party were the Carruthers brotliers, • on whose farm the two deceased had been working. After the day Js work the four meu drove down to tlie river in a truck None could swim well, and when Keii got into difficulties, the other three made a chain to reach him. The current of the swift river kept taking ,them out into deep water, and eventually broke the chain. The Carruthers brotliers were able to reach the bank.
