STORTFORD LODGE VALUES
EASING TENDENCY SHOWN HASTINGS, Jan. 29. While quality lines of store sheep and lambs sold well at Stortford Lodge today, values for •medium class lines showed an easing tendency. The selling was nct followed by quite as many jjeople as during the past few weeks aud it appeared as though the drier weather and hot winds were influeneing buyers. Nevertheless it was a good sale. A larger proportion of older sheep was offered and for wethers values were a shade easier. Lambs now lack the bloom of earlier in the season, many lines being notieeably dry shorn. Wether lambs made 22s 6d, woolly wether lambs 22s 3d to 25s 4d, with Down eross 24s 6d. Good mixed aged ewes, and the biggest proportion of them young made 27s with other lines 19s 9d to 21s. Two-tooth ewes realised 29s lOd to 34s Id. Saies of twotooth wethers ranged from 2Gs lOd to 2Ss ,6d with older wethers at 29s 9d. Quality was lacking in the fat sh^ep yarding and as a result the market was easier. Prime ewes made 21s 7d to 22s lOd, medium 20s 4d and unlinished His lOd, with four-tooths at 25s lOd. Unlinislied wethers sold at from 25s ld to 28s ld. Shorn lambs realised 22s 10s, and small unattractive woolly lambs 15s to 20s lOd. Anything showing quality met with a sound sale when 600 head of store cattlc were olfered. Some good quality lines came forward to meet with steady eompetition from the bench of buyers. Four-ofi: bullocks were passed in at £13, tliree-off steers realised £10 10s to £12 2s, and two-oft" £9. One-off steers made np the bulk of the male oifering. " With a larger yarding of 170 head, values for beef reeeded from last week's high prices obtained on a short entry of quality beasts. Rates today were only about schedule but there was a steady demand. Few heavy bullocks came forward but the consignment sold well at up to £21 18s 6d.
