SPEEDSTER FINED £5
Alan B. Holmes was charged in the Police Court, Otaki, yesterday, with exceeding the speed limit of 40 m.p.h. on. the main road, Inspector Doggett stating that he had driven at from 40 to 60 m.p.h. The inspector said that he was patrolling from Levin to Paekakariki, and on this occasion noticed a car driven by defendant travelling at an excessive speed. For half-a-mile he followed him and estimated the speed to be 55 m.p.h. Later this was increased to 60 m.p.h. When questioned, defendant said that he was in a hurry to catch the boat. There was a fair amount of traffic on the road at the time. A fine of £5, with 10s costs, was imposed.
