Britain Aaxious to Begin Negotiations EFFECT ON RUSSIAN TREATY

Received Friday, 10.30 a.m. LONDON, Jan. 23. Mr. Attlee told the House of Commons that the British Government was anxious to begin negotiations for the treaty of alliance discussed with the former French Prime Minister, M. Leon Blum, "as soon as the new French Government is ready." A questioner asked whether Mr. Attlee could give an assurance that the proposed new alliance was not intended to supplant the Anglo-Russian Treaty. Mr. Attlee said that the more treaties that could be got within the ambit of Unitecl Nations the better it would be for world peace. The French and British both Ijad treaties with Russia. Economic conversations with France were already proceeding.
