NAVAL EXPLOSIVES FOR USE ON WANGANELLA

WELLINGTON, Jan. 23. Four depth cfiarges eacli containing 6001b. of amatel which is sufficient to blow the stern off a destroye'r have been despatched by air to Wellington from the Devonport Naval Base. They are expected to be used in releasing the stranded forepart of the Wanganella from its firm bed in the reef. The Navy has also supplied primers and fuses, and it is understood that a length of rubber sheathed firing cable is being obtained in Wellington. Two naval explosives experts, H. A. Haynes, senior armament supply officer, end R. E. Ansley, RH.ZN. eommissioned •torpedo gunner in H.M.N.Z.S. Philomel, have left for Wellington to provide technieal assistance.
