LOCAL AND GENERAL
Pcrsondil Rev. Mr. and Mrs. Ashwin, of Otaki, are at present on holiday. Mr. W. H. Wills, of Waipukural, is among the visitors to Otaki. Mrs. and Miss Moffatt, of Christchurch, are the guests of Mrs. Egdell, Tasman Beach. Miss Betty Whefron, who spent her holiday at .Stewart Island, has returned to Otaki. Mr. and Mrs. George Hart,* -who have been holiday-making at Manakau as the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Oliver, have returned to the Wairarapa. Much Needed Painting The Otaki Courthouse is at present receiving a much-needed coat of paint. The station house will probably be painted and otherwise improved at- an early date. Noted Singer's Visit The concert to be held in connection with Mr. Inia Tewiata, the well-known Maori singer, who leaves shortly for England, will probably take place on February 5. Leading vocalists from Wellington have offered to assist. Wellington Raccs Again a large crowd of local sports attended the Wellington races on Wednesday, when fine racing was witnessed. Saturday will be the final day, and as stakes are substantial acceptors should be large in number. The Summer Handicap is worth £2,750 and the Trentham Stakes £2000. The secretarial stafi, Miss D. E. Bray, with Misses Kirkby and Lorna Bray, are to be congratulated on the efficiency of their work.
