Received Tuesday, 12.30 a.m. MELBOURNE, Jan. 20, The offer of the metal industries employers to reopen the works today was rejected by the Federated Ironworkers ' Association aud Amalgamated Engineering Union. Meanwhile the union through its Commonwealth Couneil in Sydney is planning to extend the dispute to cther States. The Australasian Couneil of Trade Unions has called a special conference of Federai 1 unions eoncerned in the dispute which will meet in Sydney tomorrow. The ironworkers Iiave 1000 members on strike in Melbourne and a similar number were locked out when the employers deeided to elose their establishments. The amalgamated engineers have 300 members locked out. The rights to unemployment benefits will be lost by the men who support the union bans now that the foundries have reopened.
