MONSTER SPORTS AT MANAKAU TOMORROW
HORSE AND ATHLETIC EVENTS For some years past the annual Anniversary Day sports at Manakau have ' proved one of , the district's most outstanding summer fixtures, and the gathering tomorrow should draw a large attendance. It is being held in Mr. I. Bertram's paddock, on the corner of Waikawa Beach Road, where an area of native bush makes an ideal setting and gives pleasant shade and shelter to those who make the day a picnic one. A very attractive programme of horse, athletic and novelty events has been drawn up. Among those ineluded for horses are three jumping events and a turning competition and flag race for horses and ponies. Owners generally regard this sports meeting as a good preliminary for the ring events at the Horowhenua show, an'd this, in addition to the generous prize money offered, draws good fields. A fine card of athletic events and races, also carrying excellent prizes, will find favour with all district athletes. From an entertainment point of view the wide variety of the programme never fails to attract a large crowd. Ice creams, soft drinks and hot water will be available on the ground. In the evening a dance will be held in the Manakau Hall for which Biily Larkin's Orchestra will provi'd'e the music. Free buses are to run from Levin and Otaki to this function.
