BOWLING NOTES

TOURNEY AT OTAKI RAILWAY An enjoyable day was spent on fche Otaki Railway Bowling Club s green yesterday, when some fourteen rinks from various parts participated in a tournament. The day was one of sunshine, while the playing area was in perfect condition Three rinks tied for the trophies, Sherwood (Levin) , accompanied by Carmichael, Stannard and Haswell, proving the winners. In the semi-final Buckwell (Petone) beat Grey (Otaki) , while in the final Sherwood beat Buckwell. . Those to compete .were rinKS skipped by Sherwood, Buckwell and Grey four wins each; Arhtman, Childs and Laurie three each; T. Webster two; Tucker, Gerkin, Merwood, Moffatt and Henry one each; Offord and Booth failed in all their games. Eggs donated for leads securing the greatest number of touchefs were won by Chegwidden and Symonds, who tied. During the day a welcome was given all visitors by Mr. A. D. Webster, while morning and afternoon tea was provided and enjoyed. Much of the su'ccess of the day was due to Mr. and Mrs. Fred Barrett and Mr. Frank Rule.

A Youthful Player In the recent match for the Mexted Cup at Paekakariki there was an astonished bowler. The lead for Paekakariki Glub looked for his opponent and received a surprise on learning it was a lad of twelve summers. It was John, the son of Mr. Doug. Webster, and he proved no novice at the game. He played remarkably good bowls, repeatedly placing them near kitty. Centre Visits Raumati Members of the Wellington Bowling Centre, led by the president, Mr. W. F. Hadwin, paid an official visit to the Raumati South Bowling Club recently. They were welcomed by Mr. W. Bromley, president of the Raumati South Club, who dxpressed apprciation of the excellent service and encouragement rendered to the country clubs by the official visits carried out by members of the centre. The centre rinks were opposed by eight rinks from the club, and, aided by an excellent green, enjoyable play took place. The afternoon games of 25 ends resulted in a win for the centre by 5 games to !3. The aggregate points were: Centre, 202; Raumati South, 163.
