SEPARATION TO TEST LOVE OF ROYAL PAIR
A United Press report from London says that the King has decreed ;a supreme test of three monthsjeparation" to prove the love of Princess Elizabeth for Prince Philip of Greece, aceording to a Sydney Sun special. The royai eng'agement, the report says, will be announced next spring if the Prmeess passes the test with .. flying colours. His Majesty is reported to have counselled Princess Elizabeth to wait until the Royal Family returns from ' South Africa before the mgagement is announced, "'Wait six months and make sure of your heart," was in effeet the King's idvice when the Princess told him if her affection for Philip. If she still is "extremely fond" of Philip after three months' separaion while the Royal Family i,c abroad, the King will extend his parental blessing and the engagement will be announced. Informants say the King always has insisted that his,daughter has a right to normal romance, but that she cannot gracefully exercise the normal woman's privilege of ohau ing her mind. If her engagement to Philip were announced now — and she is only 20 — it would be awkward, aceording to the . King's view, if she were to change her mind and seek to end the betrothal. It was believed likely that the Palace in any evtent would have withheld the anriouncement until after the Princess had an opportunity to ineet other suitable candidates in the Dominions.
