STEADY PRICES AT STORTFORD LODGE SALE

HASTINGS, Jan. 15. •Lambs were a sliade dearer at Stortford Lodge today. A store yarding of 5000 liead eontained a higher proportion. of older sheep than at recent saies , and for these there was also a ready sale. Medium grown lambs predominated and for these there was a steady demand, particularly for those out of wool. One particularly attraetive pen of shorn wether lambs topped the selling for this class at 22s lOd aird 22s. Other shoru wether lambs made 18s 2d to 21s ld. Medium grown wether lambs in wool and showing quality made 23s lOd to 24s with others at 18s 9d to 21s 8d. Woolly ewe lambs realised 23s 4d, Down cross lambs sold at 22s 6d to 34s 7d, two-tooth we'thers made 25s 6d to 28s 6d and 4-tooth wethers 20s 6d. Ewes advaneed by up to 2s a head and wethers by ls a head when a short yarding of fat sheep was offered. Heavy wethers made 33s lOd to 35s, medium 30s and unlinished 28s 7d. For p>rime ewes values ranged from 22s to 23s lOd with young ewes selling at 23s lOd to1 24s lOd. There were no lambs or hoggets worth quoting. Store cattle sold on a sound market when most of the yarding of 220 head was sold at auction. The bench of buyers was smaller than usual, but .the demand was steady and saies were efifected at values firm on ruling rates. Fresh conditioned bullocks made £14 15s and £14 16s; two o£E steers made £10 10s and two off heifers- £8 to £8 4s. A pen of off heifers made £5. Beef was in short supply when an entry of 85 head met with a fairly steady demand to sell at values fairly firm on ruling rates. The quality generally was not as good as at recent saies. Heavy ox made up to £22 3s Gd, the top price again being ob tained for A.A. bullocks. Other prime ox sold at £19 8s Gd to £20 18s Gd, med ium £18 ls to £18 18s Gd, and unfinished £16 3s 6d to £17 18s 6d. A.A. beasts topped t'he cow market at £11 3s ,6d to £12 6s, other quality eows making £10 11s to £11 3s 6d, medium £9 13s 6d to £10 ls, light £8 ls to £9 8s 6d. Only a few heifers were on offer, well finished sorts selling at £13 3s 6d to £13 11s and unfinished £9.
