Personal The many friends of Mr. Joe I Fitzgerald will regret to learn that ' he is a patient at the Palmerston North Hospital. Fire at Otaki , Shortly after one o'clock yesterday afternoon the siren sounded an alarm, the outbreak being in a shed, occupied by Mr. Hop Hing, situated on Mr. Bartosh's property. The fire brigade was quickly on the scene, but its services were not needed, the fire being subdued before much damage was done. Sports at Otaki One of the biggest sports gatherings to be held in the district will take place on the Otaki Domain on Wednesday, January 22, when the two champion sprinters of New Zealand will be seen in action. Besides this there will be other prominent athletes present, and the running, cycle racing, etc., sMould be most interesting. Prizes are liberal and include the several handsome memorial cups. Soft drinks, etc., will be procurable on the ground, while in the evening a dance will be held at Te Horo when the prizes won during the day will be presented. Old Pupils' Association In response to numerous requests follqwing the apparent success of _ last year's jubilee, an Old Pupils' ' Association is to be formed in Otaki, with a view to holding an annual reunion. It, is hoped also to provide a pamphlet from time to time, thereby keeping members in closer touch. The weekend of February 15 has been agreed upon as the date for the first function. The membership fee has been fixed at 2s 6d per annum, or £1 ls for life membership. An attractive metal badge, suitably worded — the wording in blue and white enamel — will be available at an estimated cost of 4s.
