The plan cmbraees 900 literacy elasses and 200 post-literacv classes. It is estiniated that when the 10-year programme is eompleted 7o per cent. of the eitv's population, in eluding children, will be literate. India must have within 15 years an army of 2,500,000 teachers to give a minimum education to a ma.vimum number of boys and girls, said Sir Johi Sargent, educational adviser to the Indian Government. He declared that the educatioual planning, on which the Government was spending £100,000,000 in the next five years, was not based On western ideas. -
