Tlie Dakota crasli in Ivept appcars to present disturbing aspeets of tlu: ineteorological services and traffic conLrol systems 'available to airliners of trans-European routes, says the Daily Telegraph 's air correspondent, who asks whv the Dakota was allowed to leave the London airport. Ile adds: •' Either the British or French ineteorological services were unable to prcdict the widespread f.og oyer Franee or Southern En'gland, of if this was forecast tlie pilots must have been allowed to leave despite the predietions. " Referring to the pilot's attempts to land in Franee, the correspondent adds: •'The controllcrs at the French and British airfields have recentlv shown a f'endency when visibility is poor to believe their duties are diselfarged if they advise the pilots to go to some other airport without being eertain that the other airport ;s we.ather is any better." TJie correspondent says that a st.rong case for an earjy public inquiry appears to exist.
