The Baglan Petition
The petltion to the Eleetoral Cuurt. seeking a reversal of the result of the Raglan election, is the ninth since 1915. It asks that the Nutional candidate, Mr. Hallyburton Johnstone, be declg,red elected because of alleged irregularities in Ihe voting. On the night of the election, the Labour candidate, Mr. A. C. Baxter, led his opponent by .45 votes. The official recount reduce.d the margin to 39. Under the regulations, a lodgment of £200 to pay costs and charges that may become payable, must be made on behalf of Ihe petitioner. The trial, which is conducted by two judges appointed by the Chief Justice, must be notified at least two weeks in advahce.
