Personal Mrs. E. McVicar, of Hutt, is the guest of Mrs. Crowther, East Road. Mr. Maclntosh, of Taihape, was a visitor to Shannon during the past few days seeing'old friends. Mr. Harry Kare.na has returned home after spending a holiday at Waitara. A f ormer resident of Shannon who was employed at Mangaore for a number of years, Mr. Tim Wilson, now of Karapiro hydro vvorks, has been spending two or three days in this district renewing old friendships. Statutory Half Holiday When the matter of the- statutory half holiday was bropght before the Shannon Borough* Council at its meeting on Tuesday- evening, it was decided that ' ho . action be taken by the couhcll - to. call a special meeting to qlecide the half holiday for shops in the town. Valuation of the Rorough. With regard t'6 the Shannon Borough Coiincil's request fot a : revaluation of . the . 1' borough, the Valuer-General replied that he could only repeat, .. the assurance given to others, that an earnest endeavour would be jnadp-tp revise all districts as soon as possible, and that the council's applica.tion'-wbuld be dealt with in order of urgepcy. Many Drivers' Licenses A letter from the Gommissioner of Transport, received by the Shannon Borough Council, advised that the Transport Department had already received details of over 350,000 licenses and that the total number for the currerit licensing years would probably not exceed 370,000. A sample license for the next licensing period was received and adopted by the borough.
