FIVE CHILDREN PERISH
Fire In Miner's House Received Friday, 11.30 a.m. LONDON, Jan. 9. Five children, whose ages ranged from three and a-half years to ihirteen. were burnt to death in a fire at the house of John Gray, a miner, of Askern, near Doncaster. The youngest was the child of Mr. Gray and his wife, and the other four were Mrs. Gray's children by a former marriage. The children were alone, Mr. Gray being at work and his wife visiting relatives. It is understood the fire was caused by cinders falling out of a grate. The house blazed so fiercely that a rescue was impossible. • When the fire started the eldest, child, a girl, ran to a neighbour for help. She returned with a sixteen-year-old youth, who broke down the front door. The flames singed his hair and scorched his clothes. Despite his efforts to stop her. the girl ran past him upstairs and died with the others.
