Delay in Rebuildmg ' Hotel ! The Rutland Hotel, Wanganui, the major portion of which was destroyed by fire last week, is unlike- • ly to be rebuilt for some time for the reason' that it will" be difficult to obtain a permit even to patch the existing walls into a _ usable building. A license for a teniporary bar has been issued. Girl Catches Big Fish ; Caught near Macandrew Bay, in 'the Otago Harbour, last week, by a 13-year-old girl, a large fish like a jtunny measured 5ft 8in and weigh- | ed about 801b. The girl saw the ! fish swimming in comparatively ' shallow water near some rocks', ana" lobtained a fishing line with which ■ she succeeded in hooking it. The : fish's weight and strength made the j task of landing it a difficult one, but the girl finally brought it ashore. ! No Potato Famine In Levin I The present widespread controversy regarding the marketing of ! potatoes, has not as yet affected the Levin 'district. There were ample supplies obtainable in all local retail establishments today. j This was attributed to the fact that J potatoes are not grown to any great i extent in the district and those j engaged in the industry are not in ! sufficient force to war'rant their ; taking similar action to the jmajority of the Dominion growers.Tennis Championships Postponed The semi-finals in the singles at the New Zealajad Lawn Tennis Championships were set down to be played at 11 a.m. today. Altjhough it was T ahhodnced^ttr^'thb'^ ^"ffl^i^de'cfisfbnr- ! on whether any matches would be 'played today would be made at 2 jp.m., it seemed improbable that the i tournament could be continued j until tomorrow morning. — Press i Assn. ! j Poor Tyres on Road j The poor condition of tyres with I which motorists are endeavouring I to do their vacation travelling is clearly indicated in the large number of tyre stoppages on the roads at the present time. A recent traveller from New Plymouth to Wanganui- (who was equipped with good tyres and did not have to stop) by way of diversion from the strain of driving kept count of all the cars he passed on the road heid up with tyre troubles. One the side of the road from Taranaki's capital to Wanganui.no fewer than 22 motorists were "out and under."
