NO CHANGE AT AUCKLAND
AUCKLAND, Jan. 7. ■With their vorking conditions impairecl oply by the loss of coiitract bouuses the Auckland watersiders started work at !) oT'loek this nioriiing after their stopwork meeting which enllorsed the action of the exhcutive of the uniou. Although the shipping companies were again uotified that the union would not depart from the 40-hour week the men were again callecl upon to work tonight. They refused and 110 call was made for non-union labour to inan the ships between 6 and 9 o'clock tonight wlien the port was idle. Tliere were no negotiations between the union and shipowners before work started. Shipping officials said it was most unlikely that wages and conditions would be altered. There was no point in doing s> and any attempl would aggravate the situation. The con trol of the waterfront pay oftieo by thc Waterfront' Inclustry Commission " has not been suspended and the usual pay day will be obsorved tomorrow for the week ending last Sunday and wages for work on Monday and today will not be paid until next week.
