AUCKLAND, Jan. 7. The exeeutive of the Auckland Trades Cauncil unanimonsly decided to reaffirm its pfevious attitude to Btipport the claims of the vvaterside vvorkevs at a special meeting" this afternoon. A telegram was also sent to the Ft'iine Alinistei'.nrging hira to eall a ineetihg- oi' th.e National Exeeutive oi' the Waterside Work'ers ' Union with the objeet of settlmg the dispuie. • • Before making its decision the exeeutive avqs given a full report by the national president of the Waterside Workers' Union (Mr. Barnes) of the disputo and of the negotiations and discussions which had taken plaee in Wellington between the national couneil and the national exeeutive pf the Fcderation of . 'Laboitr and the national exeeutive of the Waterside Workers' Union. Jt was stated that no reply had been received to. the telegram sent abont 10 days ago by the exeeutive of the Trades Couneil to the national exeeutive of the Eederation of Labour requesting an immediate meeting of the national 'couneil to eonsider the dispute. The Auckland Trades Couneil is a branch of the New Zealand • Fcderation '-of Labour whieh issued a statement on'December 24 recoilimending the waterside workers to resnme normal work and hand the dispute over immediately to the Fcderation with a view to bringing about a satisfaetory settlement. Aecording toCMr. Ashton it represents 5(1 unious with a total menibership of bet-Aveen 43,000 and 44,000. The members bf the exeeutive are: 1U r. Duane (Freeziug Workers' Union) and Mr. J. J. Mitehell (Waterside Workers' Union).
