WAIROA, Jan. S -? Donald Mitchell, aged 4, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Mitchell, was drowned in the Wairoa River yescerday. The boy. was playing with a numoer of ocher chiiaren when he wandered off, not bcmg missed. Apparently he endeavoured to reach uhe riverbed, .but when climbmg down a steep bank slipped and feil into the stream be. jw. It was not until an elderly Maori went to use his boat that the accident was discovered, the body beir.g found m two feet of water. Efforts tvere made to resuscitate the lad for some time, but these proved unavailing. An inquest was held later before the coroner, Mr. V. E. Winter, who •returned a verdict of accldental drowning.
