DAVIS CUP LEAVES FOR ITS NEW HOME
Received Mondav, 7 p.m. iSYDNEY, Jan. 6. The Davis Cup left by air for A-merica with the members of the United States teani last night. Shortly before the departure of the plane from Mascot aerodrome, Sydney, the Ameriean manager (Mr. W. Pate; received a message from the State De partment in VVashino-ton aivina the
plane permission to land tlie team mem berft and the cup at San Francisco. This waived the interim agreement b;v Which Australian planes were pennitted to land at San Francisco for refuelHng and servicing onlv, but must. take their passftngers and cargo on to Vancouver. The cup, which is making its first aii trip, was insured for £2500 and was stowed in three sections near Mr Pate L seat. Kramer, Schroeder and Parker all said before leaving that they hoped to return to Australia within 18 montlis. Kramer plans to emulate the feat or Donald Budge in 1938 who won the French, Wimbledon, Ameriean, and Australian titles in one year.
