TERRORISTS BUY ARMS WITH U.S. FUNDS
Received Tuesday, 10.30 a.m. LONDON, Jan. 6. Britain has again directed the attention of the United States State Department to the appearance in Ameriean newspapers of advertisements soliciting funds for the terrorists in Palestine, says Reuter's diplomatie correspondent. The correspondent says recent information suggests that the terrorists are buying arrns with Ameriean funds. The advertisement emphasises that eontributions are free of income tax. The Palestine High Commissioner, Lieut.-General Sir Alan Cunningham, continued his consultations with the Secretary for Colonies, Mr. Creech Jones, today. Reuter's says it is understood that they did not diseuss the imposition of martial law in Palestine as had been suggested in some quarters, but continued the
discussion begun when Viscount Montgomery was present of eneri getic military action to be taken j under the political direction of the ; High Commissioner, ' should it be 1 necessary to counter the revival of terrorism. Reuter's Paris correspondent says that Peter Bergson, chairman of the Hebrew committee of National Liberation, said the committee hoped next month to proclaim a declaration of independence for Palestine and establish a government which • could present the I Palestine problem to • the United I Nations court. The committee j would ask for a decision on "BiiI tain's occupation . of Palestine : under an exnired mandate." Future | sessions of the London conference . were doomed to failure. Britain, as. the major disputant, was not eligible to sponsor a conference, but should meet the Jews and Arabs on an equal footing in a 1 conference called by France or the : United States.
