HAST1XGS, Jan. 3. Selling at fStortford Lodge for the Xew Year opened today with a strong market for top quality lambs. There were only negiigible entries of beef and fat slieei> with no store cattle. Almost the whole store sheep entry of . 4000 head consisted Of lambs includiiig some good quality di'at'ts. Whereas top quab lty lambs met with a deniand fillly linu on immediate pre-Christiuas values the market was "sticky" for late lambs and i'or anything in only mediuin condi tion whieh required a good deal of toppiiig-oft'. jjowu Gross lambs 111 meaty order and ready to hang up soon met with the keenest deniand tp sell at from 25s ld to 245s Sd. Quality white faces made 25s to 25s 10d; rnedipm 20s 3d to 22s lOd, and sinai l 15s to 19s (id. Ewe lambs were not in great demaud, selling at from 18s (id to 20s (id. Bhorn wether lambs realised 19s to 21s 6d and a pen of sliurn 2-tli wetiiers was passed in at 23s 9d. Gompelitiun was lacking for fat sheep wlien an umisually shori yarding of only alnVut 150 liea.il eame forward. The absem-e of buyers was redected i 11 tlie values whicli sliowed a sliarp deeline. Wetiiers sold at from 29s lOd to 32s 4d, prime evves from 21s to 21s 7d, iTnlinislied down to 17s lOd, with Down Gross ewes at 23s. Only a few sinai! to medium lambs were olfered to sell at 15s 4d to 19s 4d. Only 39 head of liglit beef, all an account one vendor, came forward. Gompetition was lacking and a good proporlion of tlie offering was passed at •auction (hough saies were made hiter witn cows at from £9 to £10 and liglit bul loclcs at from £14 to £15.
