CHECKING FROST DAMAGE
HASTINGS, Dec. 30. A method of controlling frost damage which gives promise of success, ; was mentioned by Dr. E. Marsden, sec- 1 retarv of the Department of Seientific ; and Industrial Research, in an interview today. It depended, he. said, on the normal oecurrence of temperature 1 inversion in fros'ting conditions. Tho 1 air above tlie trees on a normal frosty 1 night was warmer than the air at the : mrface. A large propeller somewhat - similar to that of a helicopter, was nsed to suck this warm air from above - and spread it over the surface, displac- * ing the cold air by suction from above. 1 About 3 kilowatts of power was in- 1 volved and the area treated was about five acres.
