The Manawatu Racing Club's popular Christmas carniyal was concluded at Awapuni on Saturday in fine though breezy weather.. and there was a very large attendance. The course was fast and the racing, which was remarkable for the success of Awapunitrained horses, was interesting throughout, The totalisator turnover for the day was £90,997, 'bompared with £58,585 on the cdncRiding day last year when the bettihg Was 'single-pool. The total for the meeting, £270,719 10s, represented an increase of £106,246 10s, last year's total, when the weather was unxavourable, being £164,473. .• Tid-Apa Led Always. Tid-Apa led always in the hurdles and she linished much too well for Our Pat and Red Glare who challenged in the run home. Tid-Apa and Fuzzy Wuzzy led early and they were followed through the straight by Eed Glare, Our Pat, Mynet, Greek Daneer, Gharles Edward and llasten. Mynet had had enough a long way from home and Greek Daneer was under pressure at the three where Tid-Apa, Fuzzy Wuzzy, Red Glare and Our Pat were in close order well clear of Hasten and Greek Daneer. Tid-Apa was lirst over the last hurdle from Our Pat and Red Glare but she was never really threatened. Our Pat was running in under the wliip but he linished well to beat Red Glare by a head. Glen Lrquhart wou the YVestbury Handicap aud paid double iigures. Pellmeer led early from Glen Urquhart, Urand Ai'Cair, Golden Casket, Lalcairn, Malauui, Repudiate and Tudor Chiei. Lady Burford was last.' Gleu Urquliart led into the straight and linished very strongly to beat the fast-iinishing Balcairn by over a length. Pellmeer rau auother good race and was oniy a length aud a lialf away third. Golden Casket, siovv to move, was fourth, aud Grand Adair was next. Broiefield Won Like a Good Horse. Broieiield was backed down to eveu monoy for the Preyberg Handicap and he won like a good horse after being badlv piaced half a mile from home. Lowry Bay set the pace through the straight the lirst time from Pinancial, Porluiie's Snule, Llauket, Broieiield, Xanaaki, Paganini, Tavern Liglit, lncJme and Tremello. That was the position at the six, reached in 51 3-5 seeonds. Tremello conimenced to improve running to the four and Lowry Bay, with the pace rigln on, turned for home attended by Pinancial, Blanket, and Broieiield, with Tremello and Fortune 's Smile uext. Lowry Bay nevei loolced like stopping but Broieiield

linished brilliantly to win by over a length from Lowry Bay, a nose in front of the fast-iinishing Tremello. Blanket and Pinancial were next. Lady Nahleen Beats rJpecialist. Specialist was favourite for the" Wood Handicap but he was beaten into secdnd place a nose in front of Plying Crders by Lady Nahleen, whicli linished brilliantly. The race was run at a fast clip and Plying Orders led into the straight from Specialist, Sir Wina, Sir Bradbury, Royal Heir and Lady Nahleen. Lady Nahleen raced through inslde the distance and she won by a length from Specialist which just beat Plying Orders. A length further back were Royal Heir and Sir Wina together. Blue Chips uiissed the juinp out. Sectional times were: Pirst two, 24 3-5, lirst three, 36 2-5, last half, 48 2-5; last three, 36 3-5. Gay Leng, Won Decisively. Gay Lena was at long odds for the Christmas Handicap but after leading into the straight she cleared out from the field and scored attractively from Cairnforth and Dutch Mary. Dutcli Mary, Gay Lena aud Gay Stroller were prominent as the field raced out of the straight and at the four they were followed by Sparkling Lady, Carnforth, Delinquent, Argumentative and Carey. There was not much change crossing the top and a furiong from home Gay Lena quickly settled the issue. Dutch Mary stuek on well undei pressure but Cairnforth headed her a few yards from the line. Delinquent was close up fourth with Gay Stroller almost on terms. Mesalliance Just Caught Citation. . There was a thrilling finish to the last race and the winner was Mesalliance. Half way down the straight Mesalliance looked as if he eould not cateh the .ieader, Citation, and good judges wrote him off as a win proposition. Waddoll, bowcvor, took .the 1

Ninth Duke gelding on the inner, and , Mesalliance linished with great dash to beat Citation by half a head. Saiior Boy was a good third, followed- by Dancing Gii'l and Pirst Act. Citation was in front all the way and Pirst Act, Tortago, Winning Ticket and Dancing Girl were prominent in the run to the straight.
