NEW PLYMOLTIJ, Uoc. 21). Baby Patu, ti liydroplane ovvned by E. Jones, of Wairoa, a contestant at tho regatta of the New Plyniouth Motor Boat Club at Ngamotu on .Saturday, overturned during a race, throwing its two occupants into the water. The boat sank during the salvage operations bnt was successfully towed ashorc. The occupants were pieked up by a patrolling launch. The mishap . occurred during a race for hydroplanes over six laps. The Baby Pam was well in the lead when rounding the buoy for the last timo. She rose sharplv from the water and overturned. Mr. Jones and liis wife, who was with him, were tluown clear. Because they endangered the safetv of the two persons in the water, other speedboats changed course and left the race which was called olf. The hvdroplane was found to have sud'ered no serious damage. The principal event, the Jesta trophy raee for hydroplanes, was won by V. Simpson 's Hot Shot (Rotorua) with Baby Pam second.
