It is officially announced in Jerusalem that a British officer who was kidnapped by ten Jewish gunmen i'rom the Metropole Hotel in Nathanya, was later returned to the hotel. The officer had been ftogged. „ . Earlier today Irgun Leumi Vjosters stuck on walls throughout •- Jerusalem repeated the threat publicly to flok the British officer in retaliation ~for the birching of one of their "fighters." The posters announced the organisation's decision "to continue the fight against the British forces in Palestine" and added that there would be no cease fire in the struggle for the freedom of the nation. Haganah has issued a leaflet that ihe "defence forces of Yishuv (Jewish community of Palestine) are standing to, and there has been no laying down of arms." The leaflet said that Jewish illegal immigration was the keynote of the Zionist struggle, and Haganah was now organising the transfer of the Jewish masses from Europe to "countries nearer the shore of the Mediterranean." It also appealed to the Jewish community to obey the authority of the newlv-elected Zionist leaders.
