BRITAIN TO EXPORT WOOL TOPS TO EUROPE
Keceived Fridav, 7 p.m. LOXDOX, Dcc. 27. Britain has decided to resume large scale export of wool tops, namely combcd wool, of which there is almost a des perate shortagc in many countries. This deeision is expecled immediately to re sult in increasiug European ability to conswine wool by many millions oi' potinds weiglit annually. Many' European countries .rcasonably equipped witli spinning and weaving niachinery, are complelely devoid of faeilities fc ir eofjibing tlieir wool. 11 is u liiglilv skilied pnieeri.s and before the war tliey eould btiv their. own eombing jilants. Germany was an imjiortant. source of supply of tops for these countrie.s, and also Britain, Italy and Belgium. Hinee the war there has been a serious bottle neek in European wool conibing faeilities with Gerinan plants Ihus far out of eonimissiou and Italy and Belgium working mueh below their pre-war e.ap iieity. Italy and Belgium shared part of their out put with other countries but latelv have been eompelled to retain it owing to the urgeney of tlie' domestie ueed, Britain, too, has been sharing her top production but had lirst obligation to her spinners and manufacturers who are making an iinportant contribution to world rehabililation in their exports of yams and cloth, especially to the Dominions. British capac ity to comb Doininion wool, however, has now reached a point exeeeding the needs of British mills. From January Britain will export to needy countries combed Doininion wool commercially es'tiniated itt.synic millions of pouiids of . weight 'nio'nthiyF" Tcfp's are ke lie ved to be .available 'in a]l qualities of cro'ss bred and iMerino and, accessible to all countries with whom Britain has ]iav ment arrangements. This is excellent news for large weiglits of wool iu usable form will go to countries whosc lack of mechanical equipment may 110; enable tlieni to use bale wool.
