Personal. Mr. Frank Thurston, of Plimmerton, is visiting friends in Shannon for the Christmas holidays. Mr. R. Lind, Jnr., is spending the holidays with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. R. Lind, Vance Street. Miss Betty Stuart, of Wellington, is the guest of Mrs. J. A. Easton and Miss Nancy Easton, of Buckley. ! Mr. E. Clough, of Invercargill, is 1 the guest of his brother, Mr. W. ' Clough, Sheehan Street. Mr. J. Thomson has arrived home from the Wairarapa for the holidays. i Mr. and Mrs. G. Frost, of Nelson, are the guests of Mrs. G. McEwen, ! Snr., Ballance Street. j Mr. J. A. Wilkinson and Miss L. Wilkinson were Wellington visitors to Shannon an$ snent Christmas day as the guest of Mrs. E. L. Hyde. Miss Rona Birss and Miss F. Chester left on Christmas day to spend a holiday at Paraparaumu Beach. Miss Doris Beech has returned home from the South Island to spend the holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. Beech, Mangaore. ' Successful Christmas i Business people report a very i successful Christmas. Although there was no actual rush period, good business was conducted for I about a week before the holidays commenced. Shannon celebrated Christmas in . traditional manner but unfavourable weather conditions on Christmas day somewhat curtailed outdoor activity. Many residents left town to spend Christmas eve in Palmerston North but there was still gaiejty on Shannon's streets. Christmas morninp- saw the familiar figure of Father Christmas doing his rounds in spite of his spirits being somewhat dampened by the heavy rain.
