RESULTS FROM AWAPUNI
The Manawatu Racing Club's Summer Meeting was continued a>t Awapuni yesterday in delightfully fine weather and there was a large attendance. The totalisator investments amounted to £106,650, compared with £64,129 10S iast Boxing'-Day when the.hetting system was single pool and the day was showery. Yesterday the couise'was in perfect order after rain on Christmas Day. j Easy for Fuzzy Wuzzy. j Fuzzy Wuzzy took eharge six furlougs from hoiue aml ke went on to win the hurdles by three lengtlis from Thunderhead wliicli finished well to cut Mary Jo out of second money. Beau Jewel lost his rider at the first fenee and Theolateral lost his at the third. Our Pat was the leader ■ for nearly a mile and Fuzzy Wuzzy theu took over to lead iuto the straight from Mary Jo with Thunderhead making up ground. Fuzzy Wuzzy led narrowly to the last i'ence but once over he was never in dauger of defeat. Our Pat was fourth and Grand Central next. | Grand Affair at Long Odds. j Pellmeer led out in the Trial Handieap and set a hot paee, the lieid being well strung out as they s rau to the straight. Tliere the order was Pellmeer, ' from Gay Divoreee, Castlebrae, Revivre, Weleome Guest, Grand Alfair, JSlv Way, Gynee Lou and Vaincre. Half way down the straight Grand, Affair aud My Way were ehallenging Weleome Guest and Castlebrae and Grand Affair drew out over the last bit to beat Castlebrae by under a length. J ust oyer a length away were Weleome Guest -and My Way, alniost on terins, and Indira was fourth. The win dividend was over a quarter of a eentury.
Distinction Finished Solidly. Distinetion linished resolutely to beat Deep Sea for the uiajor honours in the two-year-old raee. Distinetion and Sea Lad "wero iirst to break the line and they turned for home elosely attended by Deep Sea, Bronstar, whieh was slow a'wav, and Sir Royal. Distinetion lead at the distanee wliere Deep Sea joined liim and Distinetion, with something in reserve, drew out and won nieely by half a" length. Bronstar was only a neek away third and Sea Bad and Sir Koyal were next. j Prefa Finished Well. Monito was the favourite for the Apprentiees ' Handieap but he stood 011 the mark and took no part in the raee. Green Yalley was slow away. Prefa was in charge from Lady Oratory, Cinereous, Idle Along, Kothnie, Superiuin and 1' llature as they rau to the straight and in a grand iinish huug on to win by a neek from ldie Along a head in front of Filature. Lady Oratory was a elose fourth and Superium was next. Another for Merry Robin. The iinish of the Louisson Memorial Handieap was a thriiler, and Merry Kobin, on the inner, got through to win from Lmperial, Areo, Dileas and Nanaaki wliieh were alinost in line. The paee was on from the start and Finaneial, Fortune's Smile, Merry Kobin and lmperial eovered the iirst half mile in about 51 seeonds. Dileas and lmperial reached the front three furlongs from home and they led into the straight attended by Flying Aee, Areo and Merry Kobin. .The leaders were Spread across the course a furlong from home and Merry Kobin, going the short way, finished resolutely to beat lmperial by half a length. Tlien eame Areo, Dileas, and Xanaaki at head iutervals.
Sprint to Specialist. Sppcialist won the sprint in fast timo after being one of the' paceihakers. Koyal lleir, Sir Bradbury and Specialist set the paee early from Flying Orders, Blue Chips, Lady Xalileen, Julius Caesar and Sir Wina. Lady Xalileen moved up to be behind the three leaders at the straight entrance and she soon moved through to challenge Specialist. Half a furlong from the line she looked a likely winner but Specialist iinished gaiuely and won by a neek. Lady Xalileen was over a length in front of Blue Chips and Sir Wina and Julius Caesar followed at half head iutervals. Rosswood Beat Griffin. After making a fast run to be handy
as they ran to the straight in tlic hack cup', Kosswood linished brilliantly to win by a head from Griffin' half a head in front of Foxada,* whieh was last early. Czarina led out from Mesalliance, Persuade and -Winning Tieket,. Sailor Boy, Beau Kaide and MataweneJ There was little change until the field, ran for the straight where Messaiiiance led from Griffin, Kosswood, Foxada and' Winning Ticlcet. Kosswood was in front half a furlong from home and he won well. Foxada finished very fasF to be within a head of Griffin at the post. Winning Ticket was a close fourth, and Fiirtatious was next. Argumentative Returns to Form. Argumentative raced up to her two-year-old form when she won the Kelvin Handieap, and Matador, last at the hal! mile, was not disgraced when he was beateu a head. l'heiolyn and Dutcli Mary were showing out from Foxella, £>tony Broke and Gay Lena as the\ raced out of the straight. Foxella auu Gay Lena were stili in charge ahead oi Argumentative, Theiolyn and Tumert at the half mile. Matador comnienceu to move up as they rau to the straight but he was covering extra ground and he was in (ii'th place ahead of Tavern Light and Crainond Bay as they turned for home. Matador moved up to take 011 Argumentative and Granioiu. Bay joined issue. In a grand finish Argumentative hung 011 to beat Mata dor by a head and Gramond Bay was only a head further baek Closely followed by Tumere and Theiolyn.
