POTTERY MILLIONAIRE AS SANTA CLAUS
BIG SUM DISTRIBUTED TO EMPLOYEES Received Sunday, 9.50 p.m. NEW YORK, Dec. 22. ' Mr. P. Reese, who was on poor relief 14 years ago, distributed last niglit 705,000 dollars to the 827 employees of his Scio (Ohio) pottery works in a surprise Christmas bonus. He also announced a wage inqrease of 20 cents an hour with a doilar an hour minimum for imgkilled workers. The gifts whieh were distributed at a Christmas party to the workers average 852 dollars 50cents. Each of the 88 men and women who were with him 10 years or more received 3500 dollars. Some of these were dazed and walked off the stage very shakily after seeing the amount of the cheque. Mr. Reese 14 years ago did not own a dish. During the depression h6 made a home with seven others on poor relief in an abandoned- pottery building where he worked on plans for the mass production of dishes. Today he owns pottery for whieh he recently refused an offer of 3,000,000 dollars.
