PRICE INCREASES FOLLOW WAGE INCREASES

Price increases resulting from the rise in the basic wage and the relaxation of wage-pegging will apply from the first week in January wLcn manufacturers of some clothing lines, steels and some builders' materials and kitchenware will be permitted ro pass on all or part of their incfSased labour costs. Infoimed sources state that Mr. Chifiey is considering an income tax cut of from 71 to 10 per cent. fairly early in the New Year to offset the rise in prices following the interim basic wage rise.
