MIRACULOUS ESCAPE
CAR FALLS 70 FEET; LANDS ON WHEELS A miraculous escape from death was experienced by two men on Saturday, when the car in which they were travelling crashed over a terraced bank, about two miles north of Otaki, and fell over 70 feet without touching the earth, finally landing on its wheels in a bog. The driver of the vehicle, Mr. M. McRae, of Lower Hutt, received a broken nose and injuries to the ribs. A passenger. Mr. L. J. Paine, of Wellington, escaped with only slight bruises and shock. Both men were taken to the Levin Hospital by taxi, and were subsequently discharged. Interviewed later, Mr. Paine said he did not remember how he got back up the hill. The car was extensively damaged.
