HOLIDAY BEACH CARNIVAL

R.S.A. PREPARATIONS WELL IN HAND Preparations for the forthcommg tt.S.A. carnival, scheduled to commence on Boxing Day, are now well in hand and if the progrp, mme which has been drawn up by the committee is any indication, this year's effort will far outclass any. previously " conducted by the association. Yesterday the site was a hive of industry; members, tradesmen and interested outside assistants were engaged in the work of completing the erection of stalls and other necessary buildings. A dance hall, half the size of the Regent Ballroom, has been completed, timber being made available oy the Levin Aero Club. The fair, which is located behind the Post Office Store at Waitarere, covers nearly an acre of ground. The carnival will be officially opened by the Mayor of Levin, Mr. H. B. Burdekin. A detachment of the Legion of Frohtiersmen, in uniform, will also attend and form a guard of hofibur. Local bands will be in attendance and marching teams, by courtesy of the Horowhenua Marching Association, will give exhibitions of marching. Another highlight of the six-day programme will be a eycling race, run under the auspices of the Levin Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club on Saturday, December 28. On New Year's Day a baby show and motor bike racing on the beach are planned. A mystery lady will also be' at large, and prizes are offering for the fortunate person who can locate her. Prizes are also offered for the parents who can claim to have the largest family present on the carnival grounds. Among the facilities offered by the R.S.A. is the use of tennis courts in the vicinity of the grounds. The organisers of the carnival, Messrs. P. Young and J. Allen, have gone to considerable trouble in their endeavours to make this year's effort outclass all others. In this they have received the close cooperation of many business organisations, home servicemen, branch members and local residents. Farmers in the locality of the site have also been of great assistance. Mr. Young said he would be pleased if members and others interested would answer a further appeal this weekend, as there are the final preparations and clearing up to complete. He would be pleased if any persons who could offer assistance. would get in touch with him.
